FINDING BALANCE: WORKING WITH A PROFESSIONAL HOME ORGANISER.

I wish i'd found a version of my current self as a professional home organiser six years ago when i was working all hours of the day (and night) as an executive events producer. I felt like i was failing at work and at home as a relatively new mother. My day was overwhelmed with client demands and when i came home, all i could see was mess. It was a struggle to find any mental head space at home as i was being pulled in so many directions.
As i was in the office by day and online by night, the only tasks i physically had time for were feeding and bathing my son and doing the basic jobs to get through the week.
At the time, i didn't even know professional home organisers existed but had i found someone to help me manage and future proof my home, it would have been a game changer for my mental health.
Many of my clients get in touch as they are struggling to stay on top of their homes which i can fully relate to. The reason i can do my job well is because i have been there myself and the mental load can take its toll on all areas of one's life. If you're coming home to reminders of the endless tasks you have to complete after a hard day's work, you're going to burn out.
By the time you're searching for professional organisers online, you're likely to be at full capacity mentally. I always say that admitting you need support is half the work done.
Creating a Streamlined Home Environment With a Professional Home Organiser.
For me, the key to an organised home is getting on top of the unnecessary clutter we allow our homes to be gripped by. It's important to let go of items that no longer serve you purpose. If that in itself is a challenge which i can appreciate may be to a lot of people, then remind yourself how important space is. Once space has been reclaimed, you can start to create systems to 'house' important items. Small shifts in how you organise your home can foster a healthier life balance. You'll soon start to reap the benefits of an organised home which has a lot less clutter.
Working with a professional home organiser is similar to working with a personal trainer. Some dread the session which is completely normal but the outcome is always positive. The difference between a home organiser and a personal trainer is that the organiser will do the work for you. I just ask that you are available if we are decluttering as ultimately you have the only and final say on what is to go or stay. When it comes to the organising part, i can do this alone. The reason you've called in support is because you're absolutely stretched for time so i'm always mindful to not take up precious time.
Once my clients start to see space again on shelves or even the floor (yes sometimes clutter can spill onto the floor, and quite easily too!), they feel a real sense of accomplishment. Daily reminders of 'mess' start to disappear permanently and you reclaim back mental space too. Once you start to see the link between mental and physical space, you'll want to keep going.
Hiring a Professional Home Organiser.
If you're stuck and don't know where to start with organising your home, is there someone who could help you? Even a few hours to start with can make a big difference as it's all about finding momentum. However, many of us, include myself don't have much family around so even if you work with a home organiser either for half a day or even remotely, it can help make a big dent in organising your home. If you do have family around who you can call on, you may not want someone you're close to helping you as it can be more work than what it's worth. A lot of my clients say it's easier to work with someone who they don't know well as they get a lot more done as there's a lot less distractions and its easier to stay on track.

If you're thinking about working with a professional home organiser, start by looking online or on instagram. Through their feed, you'll be able to get an understanding of their personality and their approach. A call is a good idea too to talk through any questions you may have and to see if your personalities are aligned. There are lots of options in London so it's important you find the right person to support you at home. I am still working with the same clients many years since our first session as you build a relationship with them as you get to know them and their homes (which makes life a lot easier!).
